The Facts

According to the Marguerite Casey Foundation, over 40 million people in this country live at the poverty level, while the National Alliance to End Homelessness estimates that half a million people are currently without stable housing. These are staggering numbers.
According to one local survey, more than 1200 families and 800 children are homeless in the City of Atlanta alone and 48% of all children in poverty live in families with annual incomes of less than $15,000. Although many organizations exist across the country to help alleviate these problems, many people fall through the cracks because of a gap in services.

“A variety of terms like these are used to describe emotional intelligence and/or social-emotional learning”, says Wings For Kids. Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to perceive, control, and evaluate emotions. Social-emotional learning is the process by which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
